How do I lay hardwod floor around marble fireplace slab?

I am going to lay hardwood flooring in my living room. I have isted, but never performed this solo. I understand how everything "should" go...I'm just having a bit of trouble envisioning laying the floor around the marble slab in front of the fireplace? Do I just treat the slab like the walls and go within a half inch. Can I lay the quarter round by only nailing to the floor (can't nail to the slab like you would the wall).
