Some Random Question Easy 10 Points CLICK ME!?
Nixon canceled a program researching the use of clean nuclear propulsion for inter-planetary travel, that i supposed could have just as well been used for interstellar travel. Because of this, our technology is menial compared to what it could have been. Politicians of late believe in economic crises and diplomatic relations rather than science and exploration because they can't see how this would benefit humankind. If only somebody would open their eyes. Science that could help us live on another planet doesnt just do that, it promotes technology that helps us here on earth, too. We made a monkey orbit the earth in the 50's, just to see if we could, and now we have hundreds of satellites helping us daily. That said, I heard it calculated, by my college astronomy teacher, that it would take 60 years to travel to the next star and 60 thousand years to travel to the next galaxy, with spacecraft traveling the way they have historically. I personally believe that if we get much closer to other stars we will begin finding a lot more planets that we can see from earth, and learning more about stars that will improve our solar system-related technology here, like avoiding solar flares that crash computers. And it would be cool to live on another planet. Nasa split from the Air Force over subjective disputes when Gen Chuck Yaeger (sp?) broke the sound barrier. I've heard rumors that the Air Force might one day re-absorb Nasa, but no way to confirm that yet.
