When Young Earth Creationists speak of "Darwinism", is it simply a synonym for the theory of evolution?

Yes, it's a sad effort to cast this area of biological science as some sort of philosophy or life view or even as an opposing religion. Totally absurd. Why don't they refer to genetics as "Mendelism"? Or for that matter, medicine as "Hippocratesism"??
